COMPUTER DIVISION ----------------- Service Bulletin No. 8 ---------------------- To all Subsidiaries and distribution below SUBJECT: ROYAL MCBEE CORPORATION ELECTRONIC COMPUTER DEPARTMENT Machine Acceptance Test (For end record signals) Diagnostic No. 10 --------------------------------------------------------------- I. FUNCTION: -------- To test all tracks of memory for end recording symptoms. II. PROCEDURE: --------- The program first sets all locations to be tested to some non-zero number. Then it shifts a set of standard instruc- tions to the last 1/2 of track zero ans R,U's to these instructions. The instructions contain a clear order with bits between the order bits and the high order track bits. The testing procedure consists of modifying the address of this clear order (at the last optimum store-address time) and then executing it to make sure it is still a clear order. If end records symptoms are present, this clear order will be changed to a hold and the program will detect this error. If an error is detected the program will print out the track number on which the instructions are located. If there is no error, the instructions are moved to the last 1/2 of the next track and the process is repeated. III. OPERATING PROCEDURE: ------------------- 1. The tape is in hex. and contains check-sums. It was meant to be loaded by prog. 10.4. 2. After the program loads a .0000600 is executed. Depress start if break point 32 is not depressed. The program will then set all locations to be tested to XZ0963, and then automatically proceed to check track zero as described under PROCEDURE. If an error is detected the machine will print the track number which contains the testing instructions and stop (on break point 32). If you wnat to recheck the same track, depress the TRANSFER CONTROL button and then start. If the T-C button is up the program will proceed with the next track. 3. If a specific track is to be tested, follow the following procedure. a. Depress MANUAL INPUT button on console b. Type U0524 on the keyboard (Dec. loc. 0509) c. Depress FILL INST. button on console d. Depress ONE OP. button on console e. Depress EXECUTE INST: button on console f. Depress MANUAL INPUT button on console (LF) g. Type 00000XX on the keyboard, where XX is the (hex.) track to be tested. h. Go into NORMAL and START. 4. To keep testing the same track instead of proceeding sequentially, keep the T-C button depressed. 5. The computer will carriage return and print "end" after all tracks have been checked. 6. Location 0508 (dec.) contains the negative of the number of sectors that the clear order is modified by. It is set to -7 at q=29 in the hex. tape. This makes the program run about 45 minutes. The program can be speeded up by changing this to a smaller number i.e. to -13 or -14 at q=29, or it can be lengthened by changing it to a larger number i.e. -5 or -4. This location must remain negative however. IV. STORAGE ------- The program proper occupies the first 1/2 of tracks 03,04,05, and 06. The last half of every track will contain the testing instructions. Every Nth. location is set to XZ0963 where -N is contained in location 0508. PK/caw P.
