This README.TXT dated Sep 06, 90 is for Superbase 4 Windows Trial Pack
Version 1.2. It contains some corrections to the Trial Pack booklet and
some supplementary information.

Page 7: Installation:-
The automatic installation procedure copies the following files from your
floppy drive into your destination drive and directory:
SBPROGS.EXE
TRDATA1.EXE
TRDATA2.EXE
These files are created using PKZIP and ZIP2EXE from PKWARE, Inc. They are
sets of compressed files that self-unpack into the following directory
structure, where DEST is your destination drive and directory:
DEST
     SB4MODEL
              DDE
              DLL
              TRADING
              IDEAS
The installation procedure deletes each of the self-unpacking .EXEs after
executing it.

Page 7: Running the Preview:-
The Superbase PREVIEW program is found in the SB4MODEL directory. You can
terminate PREVIEW at any time by pressing ESC and responding "OK" to the
dialog that appears.

Page 15: Accessing on-line help:-
ALT F10 to maximize the Help screen is a Windows 2.1x convention not
carried over to Windows 3.x.

Page 80: Constants:-
Click on Cancel to exit the Constant dialog box before proceeding with the
next section.

Page 80: A LOOKUP Validation:-
To view the validation formula, click in the box containing it and use the
arrow keys.

Page 85: Some DML Commands:-
Remember that Pg Dn on your numeric keypad only works if Num Lock is not
set.

Page 91: Automatic Data Transfer to Excel:-
Field Selection is on the Superbase Set menu. When you view the Field
Selection dialog, you will find the specified fields already selected.
Simply click on OK.
You will find the Excel example file DDEDEM.XLW in the Trial Pack DDE
directory. When opening this file in Excel you should click on "No" in
response to the dialog "Update references in unopened documents?"

Page 92: Automatic data transfer to Excel:-
When closing files in Excel, click on "No" in response to the "Save Changes?" dialogs that appear.
After selecting the Copy command in the Superbase Edit menu, select the
File New command in Excel and click on OK to open a new worksheet. Click on
the Maximize button on the Excel header bar so that you can view a large
enough section of the worksheet to be able to highlight seven cells in a
row. Click on the same button to downsize the window again.

Page 92: DDE under program control:-
Before proceeding with this demonstration, close Excel down. You should
also ensure that the directory containing EXCEL.EXE is in the PATH in
AUTOEXEC.BAT.
During the execution of the Superbase ROLLDDE program, you may find that
your screen goes blank while Excel is loading. This is normal.
Under DOS 4.01 with some versions of Excel, the DML DDEEXEC command to
open the chart file AGENCY.XLC does not work and the ROLLDDE program
terminates.
You may also find that the two columns in the Excel worksheet do not total
correctly. This appears to be due to the fact that some versions of Excel
on some machines respond to a different cell reference syntax when poking
a formula under DDE. If you have this problem, terminate ROLLDDE using
CTRL C, responding "No" in response to the question "Break in program. Do
you wish to resume?". Then select DML Edit and locate the following DML
commands:
 REM DDEPOKE 1,"R12C2","=SUM(R3C3:R10C2)"
 DDEPOKE 1,"R12C2","=SUM(C3:B10)"
Delete the word REM from the first statement and insert the word REM
before the second. Select File Exit and DML Run. This should cure the
problem.

You can terminate ROLLDDE by pressing CTRL C and responding "No" to the
dialog that appears. DML will not accept interrupts while a DDE channel is
open. CTRL C will therefore only work after the DDE dialog with Excel has
terminated.
