                         Release Notes for:
Microsoft (R) Bookshelf (TM) CD-ROM Reference Library for Windows (TM)

Setting Up Bookshelf
====================
To set up Bookshelf:
1.  Turn on your computer and your CD-ROM drive.
2.  Start Windows, and if necessary, display the 
    Program Manager window.
3.  Insert the Bookshelf disk in the CD-ROM drive.
4.  In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu
5.  Type the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive, a colon (:), 
    and '\setup'  (for example,  d:\setup)
6.  Press Enter
7.  Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

Hardware and Software Requirements
==================================
To play sounds and run animations as well as display text and 
graphics in Bookshelf, you need:
  -  Microsoft Windows graphical environment version 3.0 or later
     with Multimedia Extensions 1.0 or later
  -  Multimedia PC or equivalent (10 MHz 286 or higher processor,
     2MB RAM, 30MB hard disk, CD-ROM drive, VGA or VGA+ display,
     audio board, and mouse) or personal computer with Multimedia PC
     upgrade kit (CD-ROM drive audio board)
  -  Headphones or speakers connected to your audio card
  -  MS-DOS or PC-DOS operating system version 3.1 or later
  -  Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) version 2.2 or later

To display text and graphics in Bookshelf, you need:
  -  Personal computer with a 286 or higher processor and 1MB RAM
  -  Microsoft Windows graphical environment version 3.0 or later
  -  MS-DOS or PC-DOS operating system version 3.1 or later
  -  CD-ROM drive
  -  Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) version 2.2 or later
  -  EGA, VGA, VGA+, 8514/A or compatible video graphics adaptor 
     and monitor (VGA or VGA+ recommended)

Fonts
=====
Bookshelf setup installs special screen fonts.  If you upgrade your 
display or reinstall Windows you may need to reinstall these screen 
fonts.

To do this:
  -  run the Fonts installation program from Control Panel
  -  select Add
  -  from the Windows SYSTEM directory select the following fonts:
     (If they do not appear in your windows SYSTEM directory, you
      can copy the appropriate files from the \VIEWER directory on 
      the Bookshelf CD.)
        for VGA and VGA+: vgalsb.fon
                          vgalsb1.fon
                          vgalsb2.fon
                          vgasb.fon

        for EGA: egalsb.fon      for 8514: 8514lsb.fon  
                 egalsb1.fon               8514lsb1.fon
                 egalsb2.fon               8514lsb2.fon  
                 egasb.fon                 8514sb.fon
     
  -  and then click OK


For best performance your video display driver should be compliant with
the Multimedia Extensions specfications.
