This is KEDIT 5.0 for OS/2 Service Level 4, a maintenance release of
KEDIT 5.0.

**** Installation

This ZIP file contains the files needed to update the 32-bit OS/2
version of KEDIT 5.0 Service Level 2 or 3 (or the Beta version of
Service Level 4) to KEDIT 5.0 Service Level 4.

One of the following versions of KEDIT.EXE must already be present on
your system:

File Date Size
KEDIT.EXE July 21, 1993 328858 bytes
KEDIT.EXE July 20, 1994 322138 bytes
KEDIT.EXE October 13, 1994 322138 bytes
KEDIT.EXE July 1997 or later 332394 bytes

These patches will not work for the DOS version of KEDIT; patches for
the DOS version of KEDIT 5.0 are available in a separate file from our
Web site at http://www.kedit.com

If you have the 16-bit version of KEDIT 5.0 for OS/2 (dated May 31, 1992
or April 6, 1993), contact Mansfield Software Group for an upgrade disk.

The files included with this ZIP file are:

README.TXT - This file
KPATCH.EXE - The patch program
K5SL4.TXT - Description of changes to KEDIT 5.0
MANUAL.DOC - Corrections and additions to KEDIT manuals

Here is how to apply the patches:

- Create a temporary directory, and copy into it all of the files
contained within this ZIP file.

- Copy your 32-bit OS/2 version of KEDIT.EXE into the temporary
directory.

- With the temporary directory as your current directory, enter the
command from a DOS command window:

 KPATCH

- The KPATCH utility will leave you with an updated version of
KEDIT.EXE. (The module size is 332394 bytes. When executed, it
identifies itself on the status line as KEDIT 5.00P4.)

- Copy the updated KEDIT.EXE to the directory from which you normally
execute KEDIT. You may also want to print out or save the .TXT and .DOC
files supplied with this patch. You can then erase the files in the
temporary directory that you used to install the patch.

The patched version of KEDIT is for use only by licensed users of KEDIT
5.0, in accordance with the terms of your existing KEDIT 5.0 license
agreement.

**** Here are the changes in KEDIT 5.0 Service Level 4, for DOS and for
OS/2. The changes involve a few bug fixes, along with some improvements
to KEDIT's DIR command, allowing it to display and sort on 4-digit
years. (KEDIT for Windows 1.5 Service Level 2 or later already includes
all of these changes.)

* SET DIRFORMAT now accepts a third operand, which determines whether
the file dates displayed by KEDIT's DIR command use a 2-digit or 4-digit
year.

SET DIRFORMAT 8 3 2

is the default under both DOS and OS/2, and yields a 2-digit year such
as 97 or 00.

SET DIRFORMAT 8 3 4

yields 4-digit years, such as 1997 and 2000.

(The first two operands of SET DIRFORMAT control the width set aside for
file names and file extensions. With the DOS version of KEDIT, 8
character names and 3 character extensions are the only allowable
values, but the OS/2 and Windows versions support long filenames, and
hence allow larger values to be specified.)

* When a DIR.DIR file is sorted via DIRSORT DATE or DEFSORT DATE, KEDIT
will now treat two-digit years from 80 through 99 as 1980 through 1999,
and will treat two-digit years from 00 through 79 as 2000 through 2079.

* EXTRACT /TIME/, used from within a KEDIT macro, yielded an incorrect
value for TIME.3 beginning in the year 2000. TIME.3 now correctly
returns the date in the format mm-dd-yy. TIME.5 is now also available;
it returns the date in the format yyyy-mm-dd.

* Other KEDIT 5.0 changes in Service Level 4:

Version: Problem Description:

DOS Mouse disabled in KEDIT after KEDIT DOS command under NT 4.0
DOS UNDO could append garbage to lines with > 127 leading blanks
OS/2 WRAP ON ignored for backward searches, (LOCATE -/string/)
OS/2 KEDIT could crash after FILE/QUIT from large (>32 meg) file

* KEDIT 5.0 was originally released in 1992. KEDIT 5.0 Service Level 2
was released in 1993, and KEDIT 5.0 Service Level 3 was released in
1994. See the file K5SL4.DOC for a complete list of all changes made to
KEDIT 5.0 since its original 1992 release.
