                         Post Road Mailer Version 3.0
                                October 24, 1997

 Licensing
 =========
If you have downloaded this package as a demonstration version, the program
will expire 30 days after the first time you use it. The expired Post Road
Mailer will still be fully functional, giving you complete access to the mail
you have stored with it, with the very important exception that it will no
 longer send or retrieve mail.

If you have downloaded this package after purchasing a license for it directly
from InnoVal, enter your license number into the "License the software" dialog
(via the main menu option by the same name), and the program will become a
fully functional, non-expiring, non-demo, licensed copy.

If you have downloaded this package after purchasing a license for it from a
reseller, then either you have been provided with a license number, or the
software has been pre-licensed. If the latter, DO NOT DELETE YOUR RETSAMRP.INI
FILE! If the former, then the software will think that it's a demo version
until such time as you enter your license number into the "License the
software" dialog (via the main menu option by the same name), at which time
the program will become a fully functional, non-expiring, non-demo, licensed
copy. Either way, please send an email to innoval@ibm.net, giving us your
license number and/or the name of the reseller from which you purchased the
product, so that we will be able to notify you about future upgrades. A form,
REGISTER.TXT, is included for this purpose, for your convenience.

If you have downloaded this package as an upgrade to an older version of the
same program, its behavior will depend upon whether you have purchased and
entered (into that same "License the software" dialog) an upgrade license
number or not. If not, then the program will run as a demo version until you
do so, or until it expires. This upgrade is free only to those who purchased
their current version within 90 days of the release of the new version; such
users should have received (or should very soon receive) an email from us,
 containing their new license number.

 Installation
 ============
If you are installing this program for the first time, simply unzip it into an
empty directory and run the included INSTALL.CMD to create a program object on
your OS/2 desktop. That's all there is to it.

If you are upgrading from an older version of the same program, you should
unzip this package into the same directory where your old version is.
Exception: If the old version is Post Road Mailer 1.05 or earlier and you will
want to migrate any of your old inbaskets, unzip this package into an empty
directory, run INSTALL.CMD to update or create your desktop program object,
reboot your computer before trying to start the new version, and see the
section, below, about "Upgrading from any Post Road Mailer 1.03a to 1.05
version", instead of following the steps just below.

The following is a logical order in which to execute the necessary steps:

 1. Make sure the old version of the program is not running.

 2. Make a backup of the existing program directory and all of its
subdirectories. And don't forget OS/2's object orientation: If you move or
rename the old *.EXE file as part of the backup procedure you use, the
program object on your desktop will continue pointing to that file, rather
than pointing to the new *.EXE file you're going to put into that
directory. It is very common for people to think they're running the new
version after starting the program object on their desktop, when they're
actually still running the old version. Check to make sure your desktop
object is still pointing to the correct filename in the correct directory,
if you're not positive that your backup method isn't going to cause this
     problem.

 3. As each file is unzipped, if a file by that name already exists in the
directory, your unzip program will ask you whether to overwrite the
existing one or not. Say yes to each one, unless you know that you have
deliberately made changes to any of them, such as the POSTROAD.TAG tagline
file, or FORWARD.CFG, or any of the *.CMD files, etc. Be aware that the
old *.CMD files may not work properly with the new program version; so if
you need to keep your old ones that you've customized, you need to also
incorporate into them whatever changes were made to the new ones.
Furthermore, the MAILCAP file has not changed since version 2.1, so if you
have one from 2.1 or later to which you've made changes, you may keep
yours rather than overwriting it with the new one; however, if your
MAILCAP file is from 2.0 or earlier, you must incorporate your
customizations into the new one rather than continuing to use the old one.

 4. If you have not rebooted your computer since the last time you ran the
old version of the program, do so now.

 5. When you start the new version, go to the Product Information screen via
the Help menu, and make sure that you are indeed running the new version.
If it says it's still the old version, read these steps again and catch
the part you missed the first time.

 6. If you decide to change the drive letter or directory name of your Post
Road Mailer installation, be sure and follow the complete instructions on
the "Moving the Program Installation" page of the online help so that
things will continue to work smoothly in the new directory.

 7. See the WHATSNEW.TXT file for the complete list of changes since the
     previous version.

 8. If you have PMLCARD.DLL, PMLTRANS.DLL, PMLASSOC.DLL, or PICTBOX.DLL files
in your Post Road Mailer directory, you may delete them, as they are not
     used by the new version.

 9. A problem in version 2.0 of the Post Road Mailer allowed the "Wait time
for connection" setting (on the first page of the settings notebook) to
work when set to 0, under conditions in which it should not have worked.
Now that that problem has been fixed, the program can only work with that
setting set to 0 if you have a server which responds extremely fast! So if
you have that setting set to 0, and the new version can't connect, change
     that setting to 1.

 Users of "SpellGuard for PostRoad"
 ==================================
The version of SpellGuard for PostRoad which worked with the Post Road Mailer
versions 2.0.13 and earlier, does not work with PRM 2.0.14 or later. The
version which was shipped for use with PRM 2.1 through 2.6, had a bug in it
which has been fixed (the last entry in the WHATSNEW.TXT file), so even if you
have already upgraded to that version, you will want the newer one now. We
have sent instructions to everyone who had requested the last upgrade. If you
own a license for SpellGuard for PostRoad and you haven't received a letter
from us about this SpellGuard for PostRoad bug fix (which was sent on October
20th), please contact us now, at info@innoval.com.

 HPFS vs. FAT?
 =============
If you have an HPFS partition available, we do strongly recommend installing
our programs on it rather than on a FAT partition. Not because they can take
advantage of long filenames or anything like that, but just because of the
disk space savings and speed of access of EAs and small files on HPFS as
compared to FAT. The Post Road Mailer uses a lot of small files with EAs. (See
the Frequently Asked Questions page of the Post Road Mailer online help if you
 want more details on that.)

 Getting in touch with us
 ========================
If you have any questions, problems, suggestions, etc., please contact us.
Email is the easiest way. Just send a note to helpdesk@innoval.com if you have
a problem or a how-to question, or to info@innoval.com with suggestions. Your
input is very important to us!

 Uninstalling
 ============
To uninstall the program, all you need to do is delete its directory and its
desktop icon. There are no config.sys file changes to be undone. If you have
an .INI file editor, you can remove the DCKMK, DOWNQUEUE, PMAIL, PMLCARD,
PMLTRANS, POSTROAD, POSTROADMAILER, PRMFOLDER, PRMPREVIEW, PRMSCAN, and
ZFILELIST entries from your OS2.INI file, also.

Upgrading from any Post Road Mailer 1.03a to 1.05 version
 =========================================================
The Migrate function can be used to convert a PRM 1.03a or 1.05 beta inbasket
to the 2.x format. The Migrate function must not be used for 1.99, 2.x, or 3.x
inbaskets, as they are already in that format! Users of versions earlier than
1.03a must apply the 1.03a upgrade before using the Migrate function.

Be aware that a PRM 2.x folder will take more disk space than the same notes
in the format of a PRM 1.0x folder. A folder in 1.0x is one data file and one
index file; whereas in 2.x each note in a folder is itself a file. (If you
don't understand why 20 1K files take more disk space than 1 20K file, you
might like to read the question, on the Frequently Asked Questions page of the
online help, about HPFS vs. FAT.) However, the benefits of the new
one-note-per-file architecture of our folders greatly outweigh the drawback of
 some extra disk space usage.

The Migrate function has a limit of 10,000 notes per folder, so if you have a
folder larger than that, please contact us for instructions on how to work
 around that limit.
