What is it - the "LOSUNG"?
---------------------------

The "Losung" (watchwords) is a selection of two bible
verses per day, one from the Old, one from the New Testament.
It has been distributed in German and English language as a booklet
for over 200 (!) years. In the last years, the Losung
texts have been made available on disk. There are programs to
display these texts for DOS, Windows, OS/2 and more
(see http://www.losung.de/). The OS/2 package includes a screen
saver module for Deskpic.

OS2LOS00.ZIP contains (details see below)

- the display program for OS/2 Presentation Manager
- the watchwords in English and German language for 2000
- information files
- a (totally separate) Losung screen saver module for the Deskpic screen
saver (the latter is from John Ridges)

Installation
------------

OS2LOS00.ZIP contains two files:

README.1ST = you just read this file
OS2LOS00.EXE = installation program for OS/2 Presentation Manager

Simply start the installation program OS2LOS00.EXE. Its features are:

- it lets you select the installation language, i.e. the language for the
program texts AND for the bible verses, either English or German.
- lets you specify a target directory to put all files in
- if desired, puts the display program into the startup folder (so the
Losung will be displayed when you start your computer)

Files after installation
------------------------

If you select the English language during the installation process, you
get the following files, amongst others:

LOSUNG2.EXE = the program to display the Losung texts on the screen
  LIESMICH.TXT  = German version of README.TXT
README.TXT = should be more info about the program
  en_los00.TXT  = the English text for 2000
  EN*.txt = accompanying files (texts from www.losung.de)
LOSUNG12.ZIP = Losung as a deskpic screen saver

If you select the German language during the installation process, you
get the following files, amongst others:

  LOSUNG00.TXT  = the German text for 2000

Features of Losung/2
--------------------

- display the watch word (verse from Old and New Testament) of the current day
- copy these verses to the OS/2 clipboard
- switch day, month and year (spin buttons)
- display information about the history of the Losung, license stuff etc.
- change the location where the texts are searched
- still a surprise: "life story"

Screen saver
------------

LOSUNG12.ZIP contains one loadable screen saver module for use with
the popular Deskpic screen saver (author John Ridges, thanks!). You
need the Deskpic screen saver to use LOSUNG12.ZIP. LOSUNG12.ZIP
provides one loadable module for this screen saver. You will be able
to enter the directory where the Losung texts reside. When Deskpic
selects the Losung module (which can be forced by declaring it as
"single saver"), it will blank the screen and display the Losung text
of the current day in varying positions and colours. Look for
deskp132.zip in ftp-os2.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/scrnsave (as for 10/98).

Where to get
------------

The homepage of the freeware watchwords programs is www.losung.de.

Note: it seems to me that OS/2 goes down in the near future. So it
might well happen that I drop OS/2 from my computer at home. I hope
I can still prepare the package, then...
