INSTALLING SMARTSUITE FIXPACK
============================

>> System Requirements
----------------------

The system requirements for SmartSuite Fixpack are the same
as the SmartSuite Release 1.7 requirements. For more information,
refer to the SmartSuite Readme file (README.TXT) located in the
\LOTUSW4 directory.

IBM recommends using OS/2 FixPak 15 (or higher) or Convenience
Pack 1 (or higher).

>> Installing SmartSuite Fixpack
-----------------------------

SmartSuite Fixpack must be installed on a computer with
a pre-existing installation of SmartSuite Release 1.7, since
the files in SmartSuite Fixpack do not constitute a complete
product. You can verify your existing SmartSuite for OS/2 release
by selecting Help About xxxx (where xxxx is the product name) from
within any SmartSuite application. If the release number is lower
than 1.7, you must install SmartSuite for OS/2 Warp 4 Release 1.7
before proceeding.

Note: The SmartSuite Fixpack Install program does not
provide an option for a Custom Install. If you want to add features,
you must re-install SmartSuite Release 1.7 using the Custom Install
option. When that installation is complete, install SmartSuite
Fixpack.

Extracting the SmartSuite Fixpack executable (EXE) file:
----------------------------------------------------

1. At a system prompt, type L<filename> /d (where L<filename> is the
language version file name).

Note: The "/d" parameter unzips the subdirectories.

2. Press ENTER. All files will be unzipped into the \OS2SS173
directory.

3. Follow the instructions below for standalone, network
distribution, or CID installation.

Installing SmartSuite Fixpack on a stand-alone computer or
file server:
-------------------------------------------------------

1. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications. If you are
installing on a server, make sure that no network clients are
using the SmartSuite applications.

2. Change to the \OS2SS173 directory.

3. Type SSFIXPAK and press ENTER to start the Install program.

4. If you are installing on a stand-alone computer, skip to step 7.

5. If you are installing on a file server, select Install on a file
server in the Welcome to the Lotus Install Program (Fixpack) dialog
box, and then click Next.

6. In the File Server Install or Network Distribution (Fixpack)
dialog box, select File server, and then click Next.

Note: SmartSuite Fixpack does not require node installations.
When you install SmartSuite Fixpack on the file server, the
updated files are automatically available to the existing nodes.

7. Follow the instructions on the screen. Before copying files,
the Install program collects information and displays the
directory location where SmartSuite Fixpack will be installed.

8. Click Next to begin copying files and complete the installation.

When the installation is finished, you can delete the \OS2SS173
directory tree.

The Install program will display an error message and exit
if it encounters an irregularity in the pre-existing installation
or if SmartSuite Release 1.7 (or higher) is not installed. For more
information about error conditions, refer to the Troubleshooting
section below.

Installing SmartSuite Fixpack for network distribution:
--------------------------------------------------

To install SmartSuite Fixpack for network distribution to
NEW users, follow the instructions in "Installing SmartSuite
Fixpack on a stand-alone computer or file server" above.
In step 6, select Network distribution and then click Next.

The SmartSuite Fixpack updated files are NOT automatically
available to pre-existing SmartSuite installations. To update
pre-existing SmartSuite installations, install SmartSuite
Fixpack to a stand-alone computer or file server, following
the instructions in the preceding section.

Installing SmartSuite Fixpack using CID (Configuration,
Installation, and Distribution):
--------------------------------------------------

1. Close all Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 applications.

2. Change to the \OS2SS173\<language> directory (where <language>
is the language version of SmartSuite).

3. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the SUITE.RSP file located in
the \OS2SS173\<language> directory. Edit the file appropriately
and then save the file.

Note: If you installed SmartSuite Release 1.7 (or higher) using
CID and have a previously edited version of the SUITE.RSP response
file, you can refer to or use that file.

4. In the OS/2 System Editor, open the UPDSSCID.CMD file located
in the \OS2SS173\<language> directory. Edit the file to add the
appropriate directory information for your environment.

5. Save the UPDSSCID.CMD file and then exit the OS/2 System Editor.

6. Type UPDSSCID and press ENTER to initiate the SmartSuite
Fixpack installation.

Note: Error messages are logged in the Suite.log file.

>> Uninstalling SmartSuite Fixpack
-------------------------------

The Uninstall process for SmartSuite Fixpack is the same as
the SmartSuite Release 1.7 Uninstall process. For more information,
refer to Uninstalling SmartSuite Products in the SmartSuite Readme
file (README.TXT) located in the \LOTUSW4 directory.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Improved Microsoft Office file import and export filters are
available in 1-2-3 and Word Pro. The File - Open and File - Save
functions maintain as much data and functionality as possible.
Note that there is not a 1:1 correspondence for all features in

cannot be achieved.

TROUBLESHOOTING
===============

>>ERROR 170 displays when installing SmartSuite Fixpack
-----------------------------------------------------

The SmartSuite Fixpack Install program displays
an "ERROR 170: Install cannot continue" message and exits:

* If the Install program cannot find a pre-existing
installation of SmartSuite Release 1.7 (or higher). You may have an
earlier release of SmartSuite installed (for example, Release 1.5
or 1.6) or SmartSuite may not be installed at all.

* If the Install program cannot find the EPFIS.INI and
INSTALL.INI files, or these files are deleted, corrupted, or
contain errors.

* If you installed Lotus Notes after installing SmartSuite
Release 1.7 (or higher). Some of the statements in the EPFIS.INI
and INSTALL.INI files may be incorrect for SmartSuite.

To fix this problem, install SmartSuite Release 1.7 and then
install SmartSuite Fixpack.

>>ERROR 200 displays when installing SmartSuite Fixpack
-----------------------------------------------------
"ERROR 200: Install cannot continue" displays if the SmartSuite
Fixpack Install program detects a later version of SmartSuite than
the one you are trying to install.

>> SmartSuite Fixpack Install Program Fails
----------------------------------------

If the Install program fails while copying files, a
dialog box may prompt you to delete all of the files copied
up to that point in the installation.

* Choosing "NO" to remove the files does not delete any files.

IBM recommends that you choose "NO" if a dialog box prompts you
to remove files. You can retry installing SmartSuite Fixpack
after choosing "NO".

* Choosing "YES" to remove the files directs the program to
delete files in the \LOTUSW4 directory tree. Since these are
the same files used by SmartSuite Release 1.7 (or higher), these
applications may no longer function correctly after the files are
deleted.

If you inadvertently choose "YES" to remove the files, you can
re-install SmartSuite Release 1.7 and then install SmartSuite
Fixpack.
