1. WHO USES OS/2?

Are you a little curious about who uses our products? Here's the
background of one OS/2 Warp power user:

We are using OS/2 Warp and the Statistical Analysis System (SAS) for
OS/2 to analyze epidemiologic and scientific surveillance data.
We chose OS/2 Warp because we needed to provide our users a more
efficient method of using the SAS system to analyze scientific
research data related to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The SAS toolkit and the IBM CSet compiler for OS/2 allowed us to
develop our own internal database structure that SAS could recognize.
This structure allowed on-the-fly compression of our LAN databases
from roughly 1.5 gigabytes in native SAS format to just over 60
megabytes in our custom format. This greatly reduced the level of
network I/O needed to access the data. This, in turn, sped up
analyses that used to take hours on the LAN or our IBM mainframe to
just several minutes on the LAN.

We considered platforms other than OS/2, in keeping with the
recommended standards for all organizations within the Center for
Disease Control (CDC), but we found OS/2 Warp met our needs better
than any of the Microsoft operating environments. OS/2 Warp's
ability to support Windows applications has allowed our shop to
coexist with the rest of CDC.

OS/2 Warp gives us faster access to data, the ability to keep more
data on-line, and faster turnaround of statistical analyses and
summary reports -- basically HUGE productivity gains for research
   scientists.

   I consider OS/2 Warp a great product.

   Meade Morgan
Chief, Statistics and Data Management, HIV/AIDS Prevention
   Centers for Disease Control

2. BUY BOOT MANAGER, GET OS/2 WARP FOR FREE

On a LINUX forum recently, someone posed the question: "Can LINUX
coexist with Windows 95 and OS/2 in the same machine?"

The first response to this question was: "Yes, there is a product that
will allow this. It costs only $99 (US)."

Someone else had a much better idea: "Why spend anything when the Boot
Manager in OS/2 Warp will do exactly this? "

The bottom line: For less than the cost of a single-function
application, you can get all the capabilities of Boot Manager AND OS/2
Warp.

4. ANNOUNCING XTRA] XTRA] FOR OS/2

Sublime Software has released Xtra] Xtra] version 1.0 for OS/2. The
software is designed to find and retrieve news and information from
various CompuServe services according to the user's personalized news
profile.

Xtra] Xtra] creates a complete personalized newspaper that can be
printed, or read from the computer. It provides complete access to
national and world news, sports news, US and World weather reports,
stock quotes, and classified advertising.

The program can be set to automatically retrieve the user's profile
daily, hourly, or at other regular intervals. For example, Xtra] Xtra]
could be set to retrieve and print a newspaper every morning to read
with breakfast.

Unlike online news services, Xtra] Xtra] automates information
retrieval by allowing users to select news and information topics and
subjects to create a profile of their own personalized newspaper. Xtra]
Xtra] then connects online, navigates, searches for, and retrieves all
the news in the user's profile.

Xtra] Xtra] may also be used to browse and select story headlines
offline. In addition to being much easier to use, the program can
dramatically reduce online connect time. Xtra] Xtra] does not rely on
surcharged online services -- all the searching is built in.

More information about Xtra] Xtra] is available in the Sublime
Software CompuServe forum section: "GO SUBLIME".

5. DSS PLEASES THE PRESS, ANALYSTS

The Beta release earlier this month of Directory and Security Services
(DSS) for OS/2 LAN Server 4.0 has struck a positive chord with reviewers
from NetWork World. The magazine quotes Bob Sakakeeny, an analyst with
the Aberdeen Group in Boston,as saying "This is a really good
implementation of DCE (Distributed Computing Environment) from a major
vendor. The offering helps further validate DCE as an important
technology."
