2. IBM SIMPLIFIES SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT WITH SYSTEMVIEW FOR OS/2

IBM announced a new systems management solution for customers who need a
simple, affordable way to manage their PC environments. SystemView for
OS/2, the newest member of IBM's SystemView series, offers a
comprehensive set of systems management functions to help customers
improve control and availability of their computer resources. It also
can help them avoid problems and contain costs associated with running
and maintaining their OS/2 desktops and servers, Windows and Windows 95
desktops and Novell NetWare servers.

Today, SystemView for OS/2 is especially suited for small to medium
organizations, and even large organizations, that do not need tight
integration with enterprise-level management functions provided by other
SystemView managers.

"It's awesome. We took over a remote machine over a telephone line, and
it's really impressive," said Josiah Airall, systems analyst for
Cincinnati Bell Information Systems. "It's more dynamic and robust than
what Microsoft has to offer. SystemView for OS/2 gives you real-time
monitoring, and Microsoft's SMS does not. In the LAN environment, you
want to be proactive, instead of reactive. There is absolutely no
comparison between SMS and SystemView."

"IBM SystemView for OS/2 is a well-designed software tool with a lot of
powerful features built in," said Achim Heidebrecht, director of
consulting for SYSDAT, in Cologne, Germany. "Software distribution,
automatic inventory and remote control are the most highlighted
functions to mention. This will increase the productivity of system
administrators, indeed. I expect that this product will cut the
software installation costs by half and the support costs at least by
one third."

SystemView for OS/2 provides these functions:

  - real-time monitoring, which allows network managers to discover
     problems before users do and solve them;

  - a software process monitor, which enables managers to keep
     applications up and running and users productive;

  - support for DB2/2 and Lotus Notes, which allows users to re-use
configuration and performance data in those familiar formats and
     reduces the user's learning curve;

  - a software inventory dictionary of over 3000 titles, which enables
SystemView for OS/2 to automatically find the applications users
     have installed; and

  - extensive performance monitoring metrics that enable systems
administrators to learn about poor performance before the users
     do and take preventative actions.

SystemView for OS/2 provides a wealth of functions to keep PC systems
running smoothly. It integrates IBM NetFinity's PC hardware management,
discovery, hardware and software inventory, and file transfer functions
and integrates them with additional capabilities such as software
distribution and preparation, license management and remote control. In
addition, applications written for NetFinity by independent software
vendors (ISVs), through the NetFinity Partners in Management program,
also will run with SystemView.

3. NEW CANADIAN PACKAGING STRATEGY FOR OS/2 WARP

Canadian consumers now have another way to buy IBM's award-winning
desktop operating systems with the new OS/2 Warp CD Pak. With all the
features of the standard OS/2 Warp software package, the CD Pak
provides consumers with reduced packaging and flexible support options
in exchange for a lower price.

The OS/2 Warp CD Pak retails for Canadian $49.95, less than half the
$129.95 price of the full-box version. In addition to cutting out
bulky packaging, the large, hard-copy manual found in the original
product has been condensed to a quick-reference 30-page instructional
booklet that offers guidance on installation, Internet access and other
 sources of assistance.

"Many customers have told us that they don't need all of the
traditional material offered with software packages and would rather
save a few dollars," said Harvey Lewi, Manager, Personal Software
Marketing, IBM Canada Ltd. "In keeping with our efforts to be more
responsive to our customers' needs, we are offering the OS/2 Warp CD
 Pak."

The CD Pak version of OS/2 continues to feature one-button access to
the Internet, easy installation and crash-protected power. It also
contains the same BonusPak of applications found in the full-box
version including Spreadsheet, Word Processor, Personal Scheduler and
Multimedia software. Helpful hints about OS/2 Warp can be accessed
electronically or through the 1-800 fax-back number, both at no charge.

Currently, the OS/2 Warp CD Pak is only available in English and is
distributed through selected campus bookstores and retail outlets,
including A Plus Software, CompuCentre, Home Computing, Doppler and
 Adventure Electronics.

5. THE ADVANTAGES OF USING OS/2 AND AIX PLATFORMS FOR LOTUS NOTES

Lotus Notes is a hot topic these days. There have been many claims
about which platforms may be best suited to be Lotus Notes Servers. A
new white paper entitled "Can Your Notes Server Do This?" explains the
advantages of using OS/2 and AIX platforms for Lotus Notes.

This 23-page paper provides an executive level summary of some major
reasons for customers to choose IBM's OS/2 and AIX platforms for their
Lotus Notes Servers.

6. ANNOUNCING AM FOR OS/2 WARP CONNECT

Intelligent Environments, the manufacturers of AM (a leading 32-bit
Client/Server Development Tool), announced AM running on OS/2 Warp
Connect (Power PC Edition) on 17 October 1995. Intelligent
Environments announced that AM for OS/2 Warp Connect (Power PC
Edition) Version 4 will be available in the 4th quarter.

"OS/2 Warp Connect (Power PC Edition) is the next generation for many of
our customers. It will offer substantial performance gains,
particularly in the high-end workstation market. We have a long-term
commitment to OS/2 because it is a rock solid and robust operating
system", said Dr. Laurence Shafe, CEO, Strategy, Intelligent
Environments. We have over 250,000 end-users world-wide using
AM-developed client/server applications. We have supported the OS/2
environment for over 7 years".

"The combination of Intelligent Environment's AM offering and IBM's OS/2
Warp Connect (Power PC Edition) provides developers with a powerful tool
to help them create mission-critical client/server applications," said
Jim Gant, vice president, IBM Solution Developer Operations.

Offering true scalability, the OS/2 Warp Connect (Power PC Edition)
version of AM will be file compatible with the popular Intel version of
AM, allowing an effortless migration strategy. Applications developed
today, with the current version 4.4 of AM for OS/2 will run utilising
all the functionality of the OS/2 Warp Connect (Power PC Edition),
automatically with no additional changes required. Included in AM for
the OS/2 Warp Connect (Power PC Edition) is the database engine,
communications drivers, report writer, on-line debugger and the "C"
Interface Developers Kit.
