Hello fellow OS/2 Enabled Amateur Radio Enthusiasts, while surfing one day I
located this simple OS/2 version APRS IGATE app by Dale A. Heatherington, WA4DSY.
I fiddled with it for a while and certainly think it has potential to fill a
void we have in Amateur Radio and the OS/2 applications community.

As with most hobbyist activities, I do not have adequate skills, or the time,
currently to devote to attempting to make significant improvements beyond the
current functionality, however, possibly someone else might. If so, this may
be a great running start, or a springboard to a bigger and better OS/2 APRS
Killer App we would all enjoy bragging about some day.

Well, anyway, the webpage where Dale, WA4DSY, had this stated he will no
longer continue any development for OS/2. I emailed Dale, WA4DSY, and asked
permission to put his work up on Hobbes for all of us and also to allow
references submitted to the HAM/2 website.

http://www.wa4dsy.net/aprs/index.html#aprsservers should get you to the
proper page and you can find Dale's comments about it.

I have included a copy of Dale's response (including my original email request
quoted in the reply) granting that permission, and a reiterating confirmation he
will do no more development. I am including this in the archive for reference
and as a proper courtesy to Dale, WA4DSY, and recommend keeping this file intact
and included with the archive, if you redistribute it to other OS/2 archives.

I do have a couple of quick suggestions, first and foremost, Dale, WA4DSY, does
hold a copyright on his source code, he has not relinquished that in any way,
shape or form. Yet, he has 'released' the source code, so - let's keep the source
in an open source format ... as proper courtesy, reference and document Dale's,
WA4DSY, copyrights as well as any of your own in any added code and functionality.

If you have any issues concerning copyright, taking over development, acquiring
rights, ownership or whatever else, email Dale, WA4DSY, directly at
dale@wa4dsy.net as he is the only person who can confer, grant, transfer,
license, or sell you those.

                  73 de Ramsay, KC2GMW

   Hello Ramsay,

You may do what ever you want with the OS/2 aprs server.
Upload to Hobbes is fine with me and also links to my web site.
I will not do any more development on it.

As far as the lack of interest part.... that's relative to Linux
but also refers to my own lack of interest in maintaining it.
I was an avid OS/2 supporter between 1993 and 1997.
When IBM stopped marketing it after the win95 launch
I was concerned I may be forced to use windows someday.
Fortunately Linux development reached a point in 1997
that it was usable as a desktop system. I switched over
to Linux at that time. Yes, there was a learning curve but
it was well worth the trouble. If you'd rather fight than
switch (to Windows) perhaps you should give Linux a try.
