InProTrack

Short English abstract - Note: I'm no native speaker so please excuse some poor phrases.

What?
-----

'InProTrack' is short for 'Installed Product Tracker'.

The program retrieves the current installed components from syslevel and other system config files and shows the results in a nice looking PM dialog.

Since v1.13 you can pass a SYSLEVEL.* file via command line or Drag&Drop it onto the program object to view the data directly. Furthermore you can associate all SYSLEVEL.* files with 'InProTrack'.

The files in this distribution:

	- \ipt.exe Executable
	- \ipt.dll Graphics-DLL
	- \ipt.txt German docs
	- \ipt.ico Icon
	- \iptdata.ico Icon for syslevel files
	- \iptfld[1,2].ico	Icons for IPT folder (*)
	- \install.cmd Creates program objects and associations
	- \history.txt German revision history
        - \english\ipt.txt	This Text
	- \english\history.txt	Revision history

Why?
------

In some cases - like before performing component updates - it is usefull to know which codelevel is the recent one.
InProTrack tries to show the desired informations in an easy, fast and comfortable way.

How?
----

Performing the first run, the needed syslevel and revision informations are being retrieved so it will take a little while before you can interact.
These informations will be saved so any further starts will result in much quicker access.

Usage is easy:

	'Info': Some program informations
	'Update':	Update the current data
	'Save...': Saves ASCII report
'OK': Quit (configuration is being saved ('Auto Update'
status and position of the last output and position
			 of the main dialog))
'Auto Update':	Checkbox on: Update data on every run
Checkbox off: Update only if 'Update' is pressed
'Last Update':	Date of last checked information (mm.dd.yy)
'Search Mode':	Choose one of three different modes:
			-'All':
Gets all available syslevel files via syslevel.exe.
No outstanding performance, but most accurate output
			 (number of results).
			-'Fast':
Improved search routine. Gets syslevel files recursive via
environment settings. Shows nearly exactly the number
			 of installed components.
			-'Turbo':
You name it: Hi-speed routine but with less results
than the other modes. Sufficient for all system related
			 information.

What?
------

The following data is shown:

	- All syslevel informations,

furthermore

	- Revision OS (FixPaks),
	- 'Real' OS version,
	- Additional OS informations (a small implemented 'database' should
know most OS/2 releases starting from OS/2 1.3 SE (CSD and
	   Win-OS/2 support is being shown)),
	- Revision TCP/IP stack,
	- Rexx (type, version, date)
	- SofTouch applications (gtlevel.exe has to be somewhere in your PATH)

There is no need for a special installation procedure, just run the program with all supplied files from the same directory. Additional data is being written there, too.
If you don't like this stuff, simply delete all files, no system INIs or data will be modified when using.

Rexx or ObjectRexx must be installed.

Note: If you use Warp 3 or 4 it's a good idea to 'pack' the executable and the DLL with 'lxlite' by Andrew Zabolotny to save some space on your HD.

Known Bugs?
-----------

- Export always creates german strings. If anybody knows in which *.MSG file the language dependant strings are located, please let me know.

Who?
----

InProTrack is a quick hack but was tested carefully under Warp 4 (German version) with FP1 and FP8.

If you detect problems or errors (most important if there is strange output with other language versions of OS/2 I couldn't test) or if you have suggestions, please let me know.

Have fun.
