This simple timing diagram says it all !

There is NO difference between imm and ppa chips in epp mode.

The 'data' burst is in or out and issued in a 32bit stream.

The interface takes care of the timing details. It is simply left to the programmer to issue word read or writes to the fifo of the epp port and leave the port to handle the rest.
