1. What is the EuroCalc package for ?
=====================================

EuroCalc provides a simple and easy to use interface for
calculating the old european currencies into the new
common currency called Euro.

2. Install and configure EuroCalc
=================================

The package comes with the following files

readme - you are reading this file
file_id.diz          - package description file
eurocal.exe          - The Euro calulator
install.cmd - sets up a WPS folder and some objects
sl.ecl               - syslevel template file

Copy all files of the archive into a directory on your harddisk.
Run install.cmd to create a WPS object and to create the
syslevel file for this package.

Note:
  The directory you copy the files to does not need to be
  included in your PATH statement.

EuroCalc knows the currency courses for all countries, which
adopt the Euro as of 1st Jan 1999. If you have configured your
OS/2 for one of these countries, EuroCalc will autoselect this
currency.

Features:
---------

  Quick and easy to use interface
  -------------------------------
  Enter a numeric value into one of the fields and press the
  enter key or the pushbutton.
  EuroCalc will delete the source entryfield and put the result
  into the other entryfield. If you hit enter or the pushbutton
  again, the calculation is repeated in reversed direction.
  If you enter a new value in the empty field, the other field
  will be cleared. Beside that, you can modify the value in the
  entryfield, that is not empty.

  Normal and verbose view
  -----------------------
  In normal view, all values are displayed rounded up to two
  digits after the decimal point.
  In verbose view, all digits calculated with are shown.
  You can toggle between both views with a double click of mouse
  button one (left mouse button) onto either the titlebar or the
  dialog (excluding the pushbutton, of course) or by selecting a
  view from the menu
    Context Menu -> Select View -> <...>

   Note:
   - You can activate the context menu by clicking onto the dialog
     once with mouse button 2 (right mouse button).
   - Instead of the context menu you can also use the system menu.

  Switching between old european currencies
  -----------------------------------------
  You can select one of the old currencies from the menu
    Context Menu -> Select Currency -> <...>

   Note:
   - You can activate the context menu by clicking onto the dialog
     once with mouse button 2 (right mouse button).
   - Instead of the context menu you can also use the system menu.

  The selected currency and its course are displayed in the
  titlebar. If a value for an old currency is currently being
  displayed in the upper entryfield, it is converted to the
  newly selected currency.

  If your OS/2 is configured for one of the countries adopting
  the Euro as of 1st Jan 1999, EuroCalc autoselects your
  currency when started for the first time.
  If your country is not an Euro country, the german currency
  DEM is selected.

  Decimal Point and Thousands Separator
  -------------------------------------
  EuroCalc supports language (or better: currency specific)
  characters for Decimal Point and Thousands Separator.
  country. For example in Germany, the decimal point is a comma,
  and the Thousand separator is a point, while in Ireland it is
  vice versa.
  You can select to use either Decimal Point and Thousands
  Separator according to your OS/2 configuration or according to
  the selected currency. The titlebar and values in the
  entryfields will be changed, if necessary.

  You can select the separators from the menu
    Context Menu -> Select Separators -> <...>

   Note:
   - You can activate the context menu by clicking onto the dialog
     once with mouse button 2 (right mouse button).
   - Instead of the context menu you can also use the system menu.

  EuroCalc permits entering numbers with or without Thousands
  Separators and displays all results with Thousands Separators.

   Note:
   -----
   - If you enter Thousands Separators, they are not checked
     being correctly positioned, instead they are just filtered
     out.

   - WARP 3 below FP 39 / WARP 4 below FP 8 may not contain
     country information for some countries/currencies. Then
     either these currencies or "Select separator from selected
     currency" are disabled.
     Use "Select separator from your system" where needed, if you
     need these currencies.

  Product Information
  -------------------
  The Product Information, which especially contains the
  version number, is being displayed by selecting the menuentry
    Context Menu -> Product Information

   Note:
   - You can activate the context menu by clicking onto the dialog
     once with mouse button 2 (right mouse button).
   - Instead of the context menu you can also use the system menu.

3. Prerequisites/Restrictions/Limitations
=========================================

This package requires OS/2 WARP 3 or later.

WARP 3 below FP 39 / WARP 4 below FP 8 may not contain
country information for some countries/currencies. Then
either these currencies or "Select separator from selected
currency" are disabled.
Use "Select separator from your system" where needed, if you
need these currencies.

If you still need an OS/2 V2.x version, please send me an email
or decompress the executable file with lxlite.

 Note:
 -----
 If you enter Thousands Separators, they are not checked being
 correctly positioned, instead they are just filtered out.

4. Freeware license
===================

This software package is freeware.
It can be used wherever you use OS/2 WARP Version 3 or later.

You are allowed to freely use and distribute EuroCalc as long as

 -  EuroCalc is not sold as a part of another program package;
 - no fee is charged for the program other than for cost of
    media;
 - the complete package is distributed unmodified in the
    original and unmodified zip file;
 - you send me some e-mail telling me how you liked it (or
    didn't like it), and/or your suggestions for enhancements.

If EuroCalc is widely used within companies and thus supports
these companies earning money, I would greatly appreciate a
donation, that would support me in continuing the development
EuroCalc and other useful OS/2 utilities (see my homepage).
