Linux Step By Steps

The ZIP Parallel Interface: Mode Timing diagrams.

Under Linux, the zip interface will work in either EPP or SPP mode

If in ECP mode, and the PC is cabable of it, Linux driver supports ECP fifo mode.

The imm/ppa drivers test for a response by the zip drive to an ecp burst.

If not successful, the driver devolves to spp mode. It takes the information available from the parport_probe.o module (loaded sometime previously) to establish whether the interface is capable of bidirectional support. If not, it uses nibble mode, which is available on all interfaces.
